Who are your teachers?

My main teachers in life right now are my wife Keely and my daughter Jaya. Tara Glazier, the owner of Abhaya Yoga has been my yoga teacher since 2010 and she trained/groomed me in many ways to teach yoga the way I do today. David Harshada Wagner started me on the path of meditation/devotional practices, and nowadays I am pretty obsessed with Ram Dass, Krishna Dass, Sharon Salzberg, Tara Brach, and Bessel van der Kolk. I read a lot and listen to tons of podcasts too.

What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a studio to teach?

Air temperature, cleanliness, smell. To practice? The people (teacher, and fellow students).

Where, or what, do you consider your center?

My heart

What is most important to youwhen you teach?

My intention is to always be (and create) a safe environment for people to feel free to explore themselves honestly and with love.

If you could change one thing about yoga in the West, what would it be?

More loving awareness. More compassion. More authenticity. More clarity. More safety. More Truth.

What is the quality you most respect in a student? In a teacher?

Love

What is your motto?

Being in this body (temporary body suit), isn’t always easy and it’s not without pain, but what an awesome experience!
